Troubleshooting:"found new hardware' does not recognize Canon 1d Mark IIn via firewire ...

"found new hardware' does not recognize Canon 1d Mark IIn via firewire ...

I'm attempting to attach, via firewire, a Canon 1d Mark IIn camera.  All Canon software/drivers are up to date, but when attached the "found new hardware" wizard returns "cannot install this hardware", indicating that "the hardware was not installed because
the wizard cannot find the necessary software".  The device manager lists the camera under "other devices" with a question mark/exclamation point.  After many discussions with Canon, they've indicated that it uses a XP driver and that I should contact Microsoft.
I'm running a completely updated version of XP Pro SP3 and attempting to reinstall the driver results in a message that indicates that there isn't a more recent version of the driver.  Any suggestions?
