How to Fix - E-Mail Attachments disable Internet Explorer?

E-Mail Attachments disable Internet Explorer

I am running Windows Vista.
I can send a small attachment of 30-80kb via Hotmail.  If I add more than 2 of that size or try to attach a file of several hundred kb I get a message saying Windows was unable to attach this file.  I am booted off the whole
e-mail, and unable to return.  I can not re-open IE to begin again.  I have not had this problem until this week.  If I disable the modem, router and re-start it seems to restore IE.  Might it be the router or cable modem? Or could it be a computer problem?
Appreciate a reply.

Hello, SutherlinGal
Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forum!
What security software are you using?
You can try running Internet Explorer in No Add-ons mode, this will help determine if an add-on is interfering.
If Internet Explorer runs correctly in No Add-ons mode then you will need to identify what add-on is causing this and disable or uninstall
To launch Internet Explorer in No Add-ons mode, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and open Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
To disable add-ons in No Add-ons mode, go to Tools, Internet Options, then click the Programs tab on the Internet Options screen and finally click Manage add-ons.
In the Manage Add-ons screen, on the left change the “Show” option to
All add-ons, then right click the item you wish to disable, and choose disable.
